Tony Caviston

Born in Northeastern Pennsylvania, Tony Caviston has worked and lived in Northeastern, Central and Southeastern Pennsylvania most of his life. His mother was an Art Supervisor who encouraged his creativity from an early age. Upon graduating from high school Tony was very impressed with a local self-taught artist. Against his mother's wishes he opted for "on the job training" versus a formal art education. He worked for a number of retail organizations while doring freelance work over the years.

He designed and created displays, store windows, billboards and signs winning awards and recognition along the way. Upon receiving early retirement, he began to paint fine art seriously. He has had a number of one-man shows and his paintings can be found in many private and corporate collections. Tony is a member of the Oil Painters of America.
I work in oils and watercolors. My style falls somewhere between realism and impressionism. I have a love for drawing and creating and an aversion to using a projector to paint. I work with color compliments using old worn paint-chipped brushes, which I treat like old friends. I have a special feeling for each of my paintings whether it's a still life from my large collection of aged props, an old house or storefront that holds memories of my childhood, my Dad's fishing reel, the veins of the fall leaves, the dimples on a red apple or the red rust on an old shovel.

Why do I paint? This is a question I have asked myself over and over again throughout my life. I have a love hate relationship with art. It brings to mind my favorite quote by Franklin D. Roosevelt: "Far better it is to dare mighty things, to win glorious triumphs, even though checkered with failure, than to rank with those poor spirits who neither enjoy much nor suffer much because they live in the gray twilight that knows not victory nor defeat."
